In robotics and mechanics for the organization of linear motion are used devices often referred to as electric linear actuators or electric drives. Basically, there are three types of these devices: pneumatic, hydraulic and electric. When it comes to various amateur projects, the third type of actuators is more popular to be used thanks to the relatively cheap prices and the simplicity of connecting to the electrical equipment. The electric linear actuators linear motion is produced via the force generated by the ordinary electric motor working with both alternative and direct current. However, the direct current type of motor is used more often. The mechanism of the linear actuator carries out the transformation of the torque of the engine into the linear motion of the actuator's working mechanism.

Most of the electric linear actuators widely used in different engineering spheres are controlled by special electric relays. Exactly these electronic devices are responsible for all the actions and manipulations performed by the linear actuators. Electric relays capable to manipulate by the technical capabilities and specifications of ready-made electric actuators are their controllers responsible for the precise and accurate performance of the linear movement devices.

Linear actuators programmable positions are the adjustable limits preset by the controller to achieve the highest possible energy conversion efficiency along with the most durable use of the electric actuator under the most productive workload. Linear actuators controllers are usually compact devices that have high compatibility with various wired and wireless control panels. For the biggest comfort of users, many controllers for the linear actuators are supplied along with the remote control systems allowing to manipulate by actuator’s work from the limited distance. 

Electric linear actuators controller are usually a driver with a built-in 220V power supply. The direct current voltage at the output of the unit is usually 12 or 24V. The voltage, commutated (on command from the remote control or the controller) supplies current to the motor for direct or reverse movement of the actuator stem.

Frequently separate controllers are equipped with joints dedicated connecting several actuators and control panel or external controller. Depending on the model of the controller used, from 2 and up to 6 actuators can be connected to the controlling device at the same time, while using the LAP panel or an external controller. Linear actuators technology makes it possible to build a budget-level system, especially considering the fact that the actuators themselves are significantly cheaper than pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders. This technology practically does not require additional maintenance, as well as does not use compressors and oil pumps; all components are protected from dust and moisture and are interconnected by ordinary electrical wires in double insulation, supplied in the kit.

The controllers used to maintain the best performance of electric linear actuators work clearly so that it would be a big trick to regulate everything on your own. Controllers usually have few programmable presets that can be accessed according to the manual attached to the product. To make your own adjustment for the work of automatic controllers it is only needed to press and hold the corresponding button for few seconds as soon as the linear actuator reaches the position wanted to be the end position for every work cycle of the actuator. This extremely simple operation makes the automatic controller memorizing what it has done and repeat this scheme over and over again.

Programmable positions allow users to make the adjustments needed for their particular cases of linear actuators implementation. Hence, the controllers providing this feature are highly-important devices for effective automation.
